The Dutch Ministry of Defense stated on April 3, 2023, that the first frigate of the ASW Frigate programme will enter service for the Royal Dutch Navy in 2029. The ASW frigates will replace the existing four multipurpose frigates (M frigates). The Dutch and Belgian frigates have reached the end of their service lives but can still be deployed.
